Helen (henny to her parents) was born in 1962 in Manchester.
Her love of colour and ‘creating’ began as a small child, with a tub of thick wax crayons on the art table in infant school. Here she produced many 'fine' works of art (fine being her favourite word at the time); a fine donkey, a fine house, a fine tadpole... indeed ALL her pictures were a fine something or other!
As a teenager (moving on from the fine phase), her creativity began to take a different direction as she started to adapt clothes, giving plain items a more individual look whilst teaching herself to sew in the process. This involved merrily cutting the sleeves off her father's best sweaters and modifying her mother's dinner & dance dresses. They were so pleased - she could tell by the tears...
When the supply of sweaters and dresses finally ran out (the wardrobe got padlocked), she moved to Dorset to see what that had to offer. It offered marriage and three daughters and an era where you could rag roll, stipple, sponge and stencil a house from top to bottom and NOT decrease its market value - those were the days!
After this blissfully self-indulgent paint fest, she settled down and started to fine-tune her creations. She began offering painted ceramics, artwork, glass painting, curtains, bags and other handcrafted items under the ‘henny designs’ label.
When she's not producing pieces for henny designs, Helen also likes to follow her passions for yoga and holistic therapies, particularly crystals, reflexology, aromatherapy and homeopathy (some of which she has studied formally). However, most of the time she can be found, paintbrush in hand, having a ‘fine’ time!
